Markets

Markets are a hub for retailers and wholesalers as well as members of the public.

Fresh food markets are a large part of the urban landscape and are popular with local residents, chefs, and tourists alike. Commonly, a major fresh food market will have three principle sections: fresh meat and fish, bakery and delicatessen, and fruit and vegetables. Additionally, fresh food market may have a number of stalls selling ready to eat and take away food, as well as drinks. Organic produce is always a popular range in all sections of a fresh food market. Butchers and fishmongers will often have their own specialities, and may sell some pre-prepared meats as well.

Mixed goods and second hand markets sell everything from second-hand records and books, to leather jackets, antiques and cosmetics. Some markets are housed in permanent structures and may open up to seven days a week, selling a range of clothing, soft furnishings and fabrics, shoes, handmade jewellery, leather goods and cosmetics. Season markets may only trade in summer months or during holiday seasons, these markets will often sell a large range of hand made, local designer and artisan wares, and will likely include a large range of food and drinks also offered for sale.

Farmers markets can be held just about anywhere and are often open on weekends. These market will usually sell a small range of local and artisan produce and products. Flower markets are where retail florists buy their flowers and are usually open early mornings up to seven days a week.
