A secretary is a person who is employed to support management by coordinating and overseeing communication, calendar management and general organizational aspects of running an office, on behalf of management or for a company as a whole.

Generally, the tasks of a secretary are administrative and may include receiving and distributing letters and parcels, acting as a receptionist taking and delegating phone calls to appropriate personnel, organizing larger office matters such as repair of facilities such as photocopies and fax machines, and organizing meetings. In addition many secretaries will take dictation or be required to make a transcription of material delivered to them by their employer.
