Water skiing is a popular water sport that can be enjoyed in open water or on lakes (man made or natural). There are many variations to the sport such as the traditional two-ski method, single ski or jet boarding, parasailing and others. It is usually done with a towing vehicle such as a powerboat or a jet ski. However, some new water parks have started to create a new innovation, using overhead cables and winches to drag the skier over the water.

Most, but not all water skiing centres and resorts provide guest accommodations. Some of the common services you can expect to find in ski resorts are basic equipment hire, coaching, rest areas, BBQ area, and self contained cabins. Lake resorts and man made lake venues can provide various ski courses with obstacles and ramps for both beginners and experienced riders. Because they do not need petrol or tow machines on the water, cable and winch skiing allows riders to ski for until they wish, unlike open water skiing where there is a cost for every turn. Open water resorts can offer most of what lake resorts can with the addition of open air para-skiing and scuba diving.

Additionally, resorts may have slalom course and jumps available for advanced skiers, waterski and wakeboard school, and jetski hires. Bookings can be made per person or for groups, with bigger groups getting bigger discounts. Some venues even hold their own water sports tournaments allowing them to attract many patrons, from beginners to the professional skiers. They can even hold special company tournaments for large groups, perfect for team building and company outings.
