Swimming is a very intense sport that requires a great deal of stamina. The sport itself requires you to propel yourself through a body of water, typically using only your appendages.  Some clubs, however, might allow the use of other equipment that can assist with propelling (i.e. scuba gear, snorkelling, etc).  Swimming can be completed in a body of water such as a lake or ocean, although is more commonly done in a swimming pool.  A swimming pool is a man-made structure, that holds several (thousands, in some cases) gallons of water, thus allowing you to swim in it.
