Tanneries

There are two tanning methods used by tanneries, traditional and modern. Traditional tanning uses the crushed wattle bark method. Modern tanneries rely on alternative chemicals or imported Mimosa. Tanneries produce different types of leather suitable for sheepskin rugs, white and red hide, bullock hide rugs, saddle leather, harnesses, and bridle leather. Most hides are vegetable tanned. Today, tanneries have adopted new technology and mechanisation for producing quality leather. The leather is used for all saddle and craft trades. Tanneries produce specialty leather including kangaroo leather, harness and bridle leather, saddle leather, carving, and embossing leather. They also specialise in sheepskin rugs, bullock hide rugs, white and red hide, as well as green hide strap leather.  Most hides are vegetable tanned using crushed black wattle bark which is sourced locally and processed on site. Tanneries have the necessary infrastructure for processing leather. The manufacturing plant is equipped with all facilities in the form of hi-tech machinery, research labs, and skilled manpower. Most tanneries manufacture, export and supply leather and leather items including wallets, flight bags, back packs, and fashion bags.
