Jewellery Designers

Jewellery designers manufacture jewellery, to either their own or a customer’s design.

Bespoke jewellery designs require the jewellery designer to use their skills, experience and expertise to translate a customer’s designs or ideas into a finished piece of jewellery. Jewellery designers are able to provide advice on styling, materials and costs. Jewellery designers will also often provide valuation services on both jewellery and loose gems, usually at a per item costing. Special negotiated prices are often available for estate valuations comprising many items.

Some jewellery designers may choose to work with an array of stones and metals, whilst other may specialise in only one or two forms or processes. Bespoke engagement and wedding ring designers are a good example of this, with some businesses providing extensive and speciality diamond supply as well as ring design and manufacture services. Other jewellery designers may be known for designing predominantly in a minimalist style, as is seen with many well-known designers of modern silver jewellery. Whilst others still are known for their extensive use of brightly coloured precious and semi-precious stones and brilliant enamels.

Jewellery designers may also perform remodelling, repair and heirloom restoration on pieces of jewellery. Remodelling is a popular way to transform older, unfashionable items into new modern pieces. Repairs and maintenance are performed on all types of jewellery, from the cleaning of rings to rethreading of pearls. Heirloom restoration involves returning an old piece to its former glory without substantially altering the style of the piece.
