Swimming Schools & Coaches

Swimming schools and coaches provide training and lessons to teach people to swim. Swimming schools can operate out of their own private swimming centre or may operate from another private or public swimming pool or sports and recreation centre. Swimming schools will offer a range of programs including Water Babies, Kindergarten, Penguin, Seal, Starfish, Marlin, Dolphin, Kingfish, Superfish, Stingrays, Aquajets, Squad Gold, Swimvac, adult program, lap swimming, aquarobics, and Swim for Fitness.

Swimming lessons can be conducted on a group, semi-private or private basis and cater to babies, children adults and seniors. Customers can choose from swimming coaches operating from a variety of different types and locations of swimming pools; such as private or public swimming pools, indoor and outdoor pools, and cold water and heated pools. Swimming coaches are certified in Australia by the Australia Swim Coaches and Teachers Association (ASCTA).

When finding a swimming coach the ASCTA recommends looking for a good reputation, friendliness and helpfulness, well maintained, clean pool and facilities, comfortable water and air temperature. It’s important to seek out well qualified staff, national certification, a child-centred teaching, parental involvement, a progressive approach, water safety skills, well grouped classes, small class numbers for young children and beginners. Short lessons for learners are a good and fun way to gain confidence. Many pools offer a comprehensive and professional program open to all ages.
