Retailers of carpets and carpet tiles offer a wide choice of floor coverings, for both homes and commercial buildings. Carpet tiles are easier to install and do not require underlay.

There is an enormous variety for clients to choose from: natural fibres such as wool, or synthetics or a mixture of natural and synthetics. Some are treated with a stain repellent, so spills can’t penetrate and stain the pile. Textures also vary. Clients can choose from woven Berber, high pile, low pile, plush, shag and more. If floors are wood or slate, rugs can be used to add style and warmth.

Because such a wide variety is on offer, it is advisable to consult an expert on the best kind of carpet required. Budget is also a major consideration. If it’s for a number of rooms, the client could be advised to use the same, single colour carpet throughout to provide a better flow. If it’s for a high traffic area, the client could be advised to use a fibre that is more hard-wearing, and to add stain repellent.

Most retailers offer a carpet installation service. An employee or independent contractor will assess the amount of carpet and underlay (or tiles) needed for the area to be covered.
