Surveyors--Land

Surveying or land surveying is the technique, profession, and science of accurately determining the terrestrial or three-dimensional position of points and the distances and angles between them. Land surveyors include cadastral or property surveyors and construction or building surveyors.

Property surveying is the process of establishing locations and land parcel corners, to create maps and boundaries for ownership purposes. Building and construction surveying is the process of laying out construction projects, and verifying their position during construction. Surveyors use elements of mathematics, physics, engineering and law to perform their work. Surveying is a professional qualification and surveyors must hold appropriate licences to conduct surveys.

Surveyors may be employed by land and property developers, by commercial construction and engineering companies, by government bodies and by private individuals. Surveys can be performed for easements, earthworks, strata title, pipelines, irrigation and other works. Surveyors can perform re-establishment surveys, title and identification surveys, site features and levels surveys, town planning surveys, topographic surveys, GPS surveys, and deformation surveys. Most surveyors will work on residential, industrial, rural, commercial properties. Some surveyors will specialise in residential boundary surveying, contour and feature surveying, or perhaps irrigations surveying. It is often worth investigating further before engaging a surveyor.
