FAQs

  • Why does our drinking water from our water tank taste and smell bad at certain times of the year, usually in summer?

Because the sediment on the floor of the water tank has built up over the years and now the bacteria that breeds in all sediment has now polluted the body of tank water. It's worse in Summer due to the heat, which causes the bacteria to breed more rapidly than in the cooler months.

  • How do I get rid of this smell and bad taste?

Add Sodium Hypochlorite (12.5% chlorine) to the water at the recommended dosage to kill the bacteria in the water. This will get you by for a while but most likely the smell will come back in a week or two as the bacteria will keep breeding in the sediment. The best thing to do is clean the water tank; either by calling our operators or clean and empty out your tank with the broom and bucket method. You will most likely then have to buy a load of water which is about the cost of our cleans!!?

  • We have the finest and best filters so why isn't our water quality better?

The bacteria are still affecting the water quality. Your filter would have to be .1 of a micron to stop the bacteria, but then you would have no water flow thru this type of filter.

  • Do we need to clean our water tank? We thought all the muck stayed in the downpipes that go underground to the tank?

Yes you should clean your drinking water tank. All Australian State Health Departments recommend the cleaning of domestic water tanks at least every 3 years. Most of our clients usually get back to us about every 5 years. The muck that you thought stayed in the downpipes actually gets pushed up into the water tank by the force of the water and settles on the floor where the bacteria starts to breed!

  • Do you have this type of business set up in other areas of Australia as I'm outside your area and can't find anyone to clean my dirty water tank and still leave me with water after cleaning is done?

Yes! The Watertank Cleaning Company Pty Ltd has other trained Licensee's in the following areas of Australia. • When do you remain open?

We remain available from Monday to Friday, and on Saturdays. Call us for further details.

  • Why does our drinking water from the water tank taste and smell bad?

This is a common case for most water tanks, especially during certain times of the year, like summers. This occurs due to the sediment build-up on the floor of the water tank and the breeding of bacteria in the sediment.

  • How frequently should water tanks be cleaned?

Although it depends on the type of water tank and the usage, you should at least opt for cleaning three times a year, as recommended by all the state health departments in Australia.

  • What should I do once the water tank has been cleaned?

    You should rinse it thoroughly.
