FAQs
At F. Hallett & Son, we craft high-quality monuments and gravestones with unparalleled stonemasonry expertise, continuing a rich four-generation family tradition.
F. Hallett & Son is a revered and long-standing establishment that has proudly served the community for over a century. Having its origins traced back to 1889, the business was founded by William Francis Hallett, also known affectionately as Frank. Initially working for James McEwan on Bourke Street, specializing in crafting marble fire surrounds, Frank later embarked on his own venture, partnering with a colleague to set up shop in Flinders Lane, Melbourne.
Today, F. Hallett & Son is helmed by the fourth generation direct descendant, Phil Hallett, the fourth eldest son of Felix, who joined the firm in 1980. Phil demonstrates the same passion for stonemasonry handed down through the generations, having claimed top awards throughout his apprenticeship and earning a scholarship that allowed him to extend his expertise to Italian techniques—a country known for its stonemasonry excellence. With over 37 years of experience and having his craft recognized nationally, Phil inspects stone quarries worldwide and is a respected industry figure.
Over the past 128 years, our family business has created thousands of monuments that resonate with quality, artisanship, and heritage—a legacy that we hold dear and strive to continue. Throughout these many years, our dedication to our craft and our clientele has been unwavering, cementing our position within the community as a trusted and respected establishment.
