Centre State Drilling has been working closely with two pump suppliers/installers for many years.
Utilising water divining skills, we can offer a no water - no charge service to our clients. Virtually eliminating any risk associated with finding underground water.

Centre State Drilling is an Australian owned and operated business located approximately 1 hour 30 minutes North of Melbourne in the central Victorian region of Castlemaine. We have been in continuous operation more than 30 years, operating 3 drilling rigs and various ancillary pump related equipment.

Bore Location

Water Divining has been in use for hundreds of years and is still the accepted way of underground water location in rural areas. There are many water diviners in most rural communities, having built their own reputation on their local knowledge and experience. Combining our water divining practices with hydrogeological knowledge and experience, allows Centre State Drilling to offer no water - no charge, virtually eliminating the risk associated with finding underground water.

Pump Installation

“A bore is only as good as the pump you use”, is an old saying going back a long way in the drilling industry. A pump is only as good as the way it is installed. To work efficiently and reliably, downhole submersible pumps need to be matched to the bore and installed correctly with the correct pump controls suitable for the intended application.

Correctly sized electrical cable needs to be used, matched to the kilowatt and amperage draw of the pump, as well as the depth of pump installation to allow for voltage resistance over the length of the electrical cable. If the diameter of the cable is too small, it will result in motor failure or continually tripping of circuit breakers and in some cases where no circuit breaker has been used, even fire. Cables with too large diameter will result in poor efficiency and added cost. Proper submersible heat shrinks need to be used to seal underwater joins and all systems need to be properly earthed.

Pricing And Permit

Pricing for a stock and domestic bore, including casing, development, gravel packing (if necessary) concrete surface pad and all associated materials will be $150 per mt + GST. Cost of the pump will depend on depth and yield of bore and delivery pressure required. As a general rule, most stock and domestic bores with pump installed will cost between $8000 and $16000, once again depending on depth and pump size required.

Irrigation and commercial extraction bores attract a higher fee of $250 per mt + GST, for 150mm diameter casing. Pumps for these bores are larger and thus more expensive, generally being three phase. Expect irrigation or commercial extraction bore and pump to be close to $20,000 once again, depending on depth and pump required.

FAQs

  • Do you charge if there is no water found?

No, we do not charge if there is no water found.

  • Are you fully insured and licensed?

Yes, we are fully insured and licensed.

  • Do you provide free quotes?

We provide free site inspections and free quotes.

  • We have heard that all bores will have to have meters fitted and people will have to pay for water. Is this true?

This is only true for irrigation and commercial extraction. Stock and domestic bores have no requirement for meters. Stock and domestic usage is set at no more than 1 ml per day, which is roughly 100,000 litres per day or 22,000 gallons per day in the old scale.

  • We are experiencing difficulties with a driller for various reasons. He will not return or answer our phone calls. What do we do?

Contact the water authority that issued your bore permit and ask for their drilling inspector. He will be able to advise you as to the drillers obligations, what is expected of him and his standard of work. He will also be able to advise you as to the minimum construction requirements for water bores in Australia (ARMCANZ1997).

  • We have had a bore drilled and were told there is “plenty of water”. The bore is 42 mt deep but that’s all we know. How do we find more information about the bore?

When a bore is drilled, both the landowner and the relevant water authority must receive a “bore completion report” by the driller. The report will outline all details of the bore, from depth, yield, geological conditions, bore casing etc. As a matter of law, these details must be forthcoming from the driller.

  • We have an existing bore on the property, about 12 years old, and the flow has started to diminish in the last few weeks. Is the bore running out of water?

It is possible, however there are a number of more likely reasons. If the pump and control system have been checked and found to be within tolerances, then the bore may have a build-up of mineral deposits such as iron, calcium, manganese or simply sediment. Either chemical treatment or air development will resolve the problem and hopefully restore the bore to its full capacity.
