FAQs
Robert Tucker Piano Service is a well-established piano servicing company that provides buying, selling, hiring and trading-in of pianos. We are based in Ulverstone and cover all its surrounding areas. While our workshop is fully-equipped, we also provide comprehensive mobile services covering Northern and Southern Tasmania, NW Coast, Geelong and Bellarine Peninsula, Frankston and Mornington Peninsula, Melbourne and its suburbs, etc. We try to fix all kinds of problems at home without having to remove the whole piano.
Our services include tuning, repairing, restoring, regulation and voicing, lacquer and French polishing. While we specialise in working on Player Pianos, we also check on the humidity and pest protection along with repairing locks, hinges and castors. At Robert Tucker, you also get moving and storage facilities for your pianos. Our mobile service can handle issues like broken strings, broken or missing hammers, action parts, sticky or dead keys, loose and missing keytops, pedals, dampers, vibration and squeaks, music rests and piano stools.
Our workshop is fully equipped with tools and spare parts for acoustic parts and player pianos (Pianolas). We also install humidity control systems to help maintain a stable environment for your pianos. We can also fully restore traditional and heirloom pianos and renew components like felts, springs and centre pins. For the best piano servicing, call Robert Tucker Piano Service.

I use a concert ‘A’ 440hz pitch fork initially and then set the temperament around this using the intervals, mainly fourths, fifths and octaves to tune and thirds, sixths, tenths, double and triple octaves to check. Electronic tuners are a distraction from the fine aural concentration required to do the job properly, slowing down and compromising the process.
At least once or twice yearly. Small adjustments to pitch help the piano to stay relatively stable. Pianos in large rooms such as auditoriums, halls and churches often require tuning more than twice a year due to the temperature and humidity fluctuations.
A standard initial tuning visit takes 1½ hours. Our tuning service includes some time for minor action adjustments, small repairs, pedal adjustment and cleaning of cabinet and keys where required.
I quote freely provided that my visit can be timed around other jobs in your location.
