Maltsters

The grains are soaked in water for several days (two to three) so that the barley can germinate. The seeds are then taken out from the water and are made to sprout and grow for another number of days. This procedure allows the seeds to transform from starches into simple sugar. The simple sugars then are baked at high temperature for another two days, and the end result is called malt. Malt has granules that are crunchy and nutty so they are also used in cereals not just beer. Malt comes in different varieties where the longer the cooking time, the darker the colour and the stronger the flavours. Almost just like wine!
