The Tyrepower Group was formed in 1977 by six independent tyre retailers. Tyrepower was founded to offer the consumer the flexibility, savings and value of an independent Dealer Network and now has grown to be the largest independent tyre retailer in Australasia. Unlike most of our competitors, Tyrepower is a co-operative group.

  • How do I find what the size is of my tyre?

    The size of the tyre is always on the sidewall of the tyre. The attached image (under Products and Services) shows what it looks like and what the numbers mean.

  • How do I know when my tyres are worn and should be replaced?

    Every tyre has tread wear indicators in between the tread and generally across the whole width of the tyre at certain points. When any part of the tread is level with this indicator it means the tyre has already reached its legal limit and should be replaced.

  • Why do I have different tyre pressures in my family car to my work vehicle?

    This depends on the size of the tyre and the vehicle. Generally speaking the lower the sidewall profile, the more air pressure required to make the tyre work more efficiently. A tyre with correct air pressure will wear evenly, disperse water better and ultimately the vehicle uses less fuel as the engine is not working as hard as it does when the tyre is under inflated.

  • Should I get my wheels balanced?

    Wheel balancing is crucial to the smooth running of today's modern vehicle. Wheel imbalance can cause uneven tyre wear and excessive stress and strain on suspension components which lead towards premature and costly repairs. It is highly recommended that the balance of your wheels gets regularly checked in conjunction with rotation and alignment of the vehicle at 10,000km intervals.

  • Why are my tyres wearing at a different rate?

    Tyre rotations are recommended every 10,000 kilometres. The reason for this is front wheel drive cars will wear its front tyres much faster than its rear tyres. The same applies to rear wheel drive cars wearing its rear tyres faster. The 'driving' tyres basically need to have a rest from doing all the work! 4WD vehicles generally have the same rule but the rotation sequence is slightly different.
