FAQs
The fund was established to support young researchers, in an accredited research department, to undertake research into Leukaemia, with the goal of finding a cure for this strain of cancer. Over the past 30 years the Peter Nelson Leukaemia Research Fellowship Fund has supported nine talented researchers to work towards a cure for Leukaemia.
Applications for the Peter Nelson Leukaemia Research Fellowship are invited from researchers involved in any aspect of Leukaemia research.
The Peter Nelson Leukaemia Research Fellowship package is for three years and is awarded on a competitive basis to scientists working in South Australia. The merit of the research project, the researcher's track record and evidence of support from the relevant host institution form part of the selection criteria.
The Peter Nelson Leukaemia Research Fellowship Fund neither seeks nor receives any government funding. Marjorie Jackson Nelson's personal time and efforts along with a group of passionate volunteers has personally raised the majority of funds so far, with the generous support of Rotary and other groups, companies and individuals who respond to the calls for help. In 2011 the Fund was entrusted to Cancer Council SA to administer and maintain. Your support means that research into Leukaemia can continue toward our goal of a future free from Leukaemia.

After breast cancer surgery, your breasts may undergo changes in appearance due to the removal of tissue. You might experience a mix of emotions during this process. For more details, visit the Cancer Council’s page on breast prostheses and reconstruction.
A breast reconstruction is a surgical procedure that aims to restore the shape and appearance of a breast after mastectomy or lumpectomy. It can involve using implants or tissue from other parts of the body.
Breast prostheses are external devices that can be worn inside a bra or attached directly to the skin to simulate the appearance of a breast. They are an option for women who choose not to undergo breast reconstruction or as an interim solution before reconstruction.
