Wulguru is a suburb in Townsville, Queensland. It has many examples of classic Queenslander-style homes, and a population of around 4,500 people.

History

The name of the town, Wulguru, is the name of an extinct Aboriginal language. It is also believed the word actually means ‘windy valley’.

Most of the land in the area is owned by the Australian Army and is therefore fenced off. During World War II a large area of land near Mt Stuart was occupied by forces. Large bunkers were erected, one of which still stands today.

Lifestyle and Entertainment

Today Wulguru has two major shopping malls offering many retail outlets, restaurants and amenities. There is also a school.

The town is surrounded by bushland and offers panoramic views towards Townsville and Magnetic Island.
