Established in 1986 to support employment and training in the Ipswich region. 1986….difficult economic conditions were changing and reshaping much of Australian business and industry. Australian industry was short of skilled workers, but economic uncertainty made employers wary of long-term commitments such as apprenticeships.
AQ currently employs several hundred apprentices, trainees and support staff. AQ is a not-for-profit, community based company governed by a Board of Directors.
Apprenticeships Queensland complies with the National Standards for Group Training Organisations and is eligible to use the "Quality Group Training" logo.
Well over 35,000 businesses use group training for their apprentices and trainees, and the national network has over 41,000 apprentices and trainees placed in employment. It is the largest employer of apprentices and trainees in Australia.

Most traineeships require you to have completed Year 10, and some work experience in your chosen vocational field would be an advantage. You also need to have a strong commitment to your traineeship, as you will be required to complete formal training e.g. workbooks and assessments, to gain your qualification.
A typical full-time traineeship takes 12 months to complete, and a part-time traineeship, 24 months.
Yes, you will get paid according to the relevant award or workplace agreement covering the vocation you have chosen. Our payroll is processed weekly, and provided you have lodged a correctly completed and signed timesheet with our office by 2pm on a Monday, your pay will be in your nominated bank account within 2 working days.
Apprenticeships Queensland pays your wages while you are at college. However, if you undertake a Certificate 3 Traineeship you will be responsible for the college fees.
Work placement gives you the opportunity to try out different jobs in different career areas (vocations). You may be offered the opportunity to do a school based apprenticeship or traineeship as a result of your work placement.
If your school has an agreement with Apprenticeships Queensland, we can, through your school vocational staff, assist with the arrangements for your work placement.
For Years 11 and 12, minimum Year 10 passes in Maths and English. For Year 10, reasonable results in Maths and English.
Any Queensland student attending a recognised secondary school in either Years 10, 11 or 12. We also encourage you to undertake work experience in the vocation of your choice prior to entering the apprenticeship or traineeship.
Generally, you need to have the following: Minimum age is 15 Minimum education requirement is a Year 10 pass in Maths and English. Some vocations look favourably on the completion of a pre-vocational course at TAFE, and any work experience you have in the trade of your choice would be an advantage.
