As long as you are in the top levels of most health funds, you should be covered for orthotics (annually and per family member) and consultations. Rebates will vary so if you're unsure, check with your health fund directly.
This depends on your level of cover and the type of device prescribed. Different private health funds will reimburse different amounts.
Many general podiatry patients have recurring problems due to genetic factors, lifestyle or footwear choice. Some footwear related problems (such as corns from tight shoes) are fixed with a one-off treatment and shoe advice, whereas others may require occasional ongoing care. Pain is usually a good indicator of when it's time to return.
Depending on wear and tear, the shell of the orthotic will normally last between 2 to 5 years. We normally recommend that you replace your orthotics with a fresh cast after five years, as your feet do gradually change shape over time.
Yes your podiatrist is recognised by Medicare as being able to refer for x-rays and ultrasound studies.
Yes pain is telling you something is not right, a podiatrist can review the issues and provide advice and treatment for night time or growing pains.
With pregnancy the changes in the body can cause the ligaments to loosen and make the feet spread but this affects everyone differently. It is best to make sure the shoes you wear during this time are comfortable and supportive.
A podiatrist is a health care professional who is trained to assess, diagnose and treat/manage conditions or problems of the foot & lower limb. A Podiatrist is able to assist you with a multitude of problems you may not have thought to see a podiatrist about. You may be given stretching or strengthening exercises, taping, padding, orthotics or other means of treatment to help with your condition.
