Colon Hydrotherapy is a safe, gentle and highly effective therapy for cleansing the colon of accumulated waste material.
At Nurtura Health, we believe the state of the digestive system has a significant relationship with physical and emotional wellbeing and vitality. Medical research is now linking the origin of many chronic dis-eases to a poor functioning digestive system. In particular, the link between gut health, gut microbial diversity, immune response, energy and mood levels.

Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to have regular bowel movements and still be constipated. Accumulated wastes, mucus and gas in the colon may compromise healthy peristaltic action, resulting in incomplete though frequent bowel movements. If health is compromised by your body’s failure to eliminate waste, healing may be enhanced by supporting and regaining healthy elimination. Nurtura Health has offered Colon Hydrotherapy since 1993.

Colin and Olive Harris have undertaken advanced training in Australia and the USA; are both certified in Colon Hydrotherapy and have trained other Practitioners. Jess, Remedial Massage Therapist and certified Colon Hydrotherapist, has been doing colonic irrigation at Nurtura Health since 2014. Nurtura Health features a defined and private treatment area with two custom-built treatment rooms with modern ‘closed system’ colonic equipment to meet the latest standards from the International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy.

For hygiene, all tubing and speculums are in enclosed single-use packs and disposable. A Practitioner is in attendance for the treatment, which is safe, discreet, hygienic and effective. You may benefit from Colon Hydrotherapy if you have:

  • Bloating, irritable bowel syndrome
  • Diarrhea, incontinence or urgency

FAQs

  • Why should I have a colonic?

If you are under stress or suffer from digestive discomfort, reflux, bloating, irritable bowel, diarrhoea or constipation there is a possibility that your digestion, absorption and elimination is not working optimally. This may lead to a sluggish bowel, retention of faecal matter, reduced muscle contractions in the bowel wall, and a general feeling of fatigue, headaches, moods and lack of wellbeing.

  • What is colonic irrigation?

The main function of the colon is elimination of body waste. Stress, diet, fluid intake, lack of sleep and ill health may all contribute to a compromised elimination. Colonics may support a return to health and vitality. Talk to one of our Therapists or Naturopaths about the many benefits they have seen with their clients during the last 25 years of providing this treatment at Nurtura Health.

  • How many times do I need to have a colonic?

It varies often waste build up is so hard & deeply lodged in the colon that a series of colonics may be necessary to sufficiently soften & loosen it. By using Colonic Irrigation to support healthy elimination, there may be additional benefits for the liver, kidney & lymphatic systems. The number of treatments varies with each individual & their health needs. Your therapist can best advise you regarding this & other benefits the therapist has observed.

  • What is involved in the first visit?

Case history is taken, followed by explanation of the equipment and procedure. Treatment can take 30-45 mins, but allow 1 hour for your appointment. A therapist will be in attendance for the duration of the treatment. Heat packs & external abdominal massage may be used to assist in the release of stored matter. You will be wearing a treatment gown; always fully draped; and your modesty preserved. No fasting or special preparations are necessary for your first appointment.

  • What equipment do you use?

Nurtura Health has installed modern and hygienic ‘closed system’ colonic equipment. After passing through specialised filters, water is introduced into the colon using a single-use disposable speculum & tubing. During treatment, water gently bathes the colon’s entire length. Warm water softens & dislodges accumulated faecal deposits. Waste material is released through the enclosed system. The entirety of your appointment and the treatment process is discreet and hygienic.

  • What happens during a treatment? (Part 1)

A therapist gently inserts a lubricated disposable speculum which is attached to a hose leading into the machine. Comfortably reclining on your back, warm filtered water is slowly administered. After sufficient colon stimulation, the therapist releases water pressure; water and waste from the colon pass through the hose into the machine and fresh water is re-introduced into the colon.

  • What happens during a treatment? (Part 2)

The gentle water flow is always under the direct control of the therapist; who repeats the process of fills & releases for a period of time.
