FAQs

  • How often should I see my dentist?

The frequency of your visits will be tailored to your requirements. this will all be discussed and quoted with you at your initial appointment.

  • Is it safe for pregnant women to undergo dental x-rays?

Although our digital x-rays minimise any exposure to radiation, we recommend avoiding x-rays during the first trimester and if possible throughout your pregnancy.

  • When will my child’s baby teeth start to fall off?

Baby teeth will usually start to come out at around 5 to 6 years old. Keep in mind however that the timing may vary for each child.

  • What is a dental implant?

An implant is a titanium or ceramic fixture integrated into the bone of your jaw onto which a crown or bridge or denture can be fixed.

  • How long do crowns last?

Dental crowns can still be subject to fracture and cavities, so it is essential to care for your crown as you would your natural teeth. If properly maintained through good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups, crowns can last for many years.

  • How do I care for my crowns?

Crowns perform just like your natural teeth. While they are very durable, you still need to maintain good dental hygiene by brushing and floss the crown just as you do with your other teeth. With regular dental check-ups, proper cleaning and the use of remineralisation toothpastes, you will be able to minimise the risk of decay around your dental crown.

  • Will teeth whitening work for me?

Only your dentist can determine if whitening will work for you. The results from whitening vary from person to person depending on your existing tooth colour, lifestyle factors and oral hygiene. Here at Trower Dental we like to issue all of our Zoom patients with a complimentary prescription strength home maintenance kit to keep your teeth looking bright long after your complete your Zoom procedure.

  • Will my crowns or fillings become lighter?

Unfortunately, crowns and white fillings will not lighten during the whitening process. If desired, these can be replaced with a lighter shade to match your new, whiter smile.

  • What causes teeth to discolour?

There are a variety of factors that could lead to tooth discolouration. There are two types of tooth discolouration: extrinsic and intrinsic. Extrinsic Discolouration is staining confined to the enamel. It is most commonly caused by age, diet and poor oral hygiene. Intrinsic Discolouration is discolouration of the inner structure of the tooth and can be a result of trauma.

  • How long will the results last?

Results of your teeth whitening procedure will last for a number of years if you follow the professional care advice we give you after every treatment. If you are a regular smoker or drink a lot of tea, coffee, wine or soft drinks then the results will not last as long. If you don’t use your whitening maintenance kit your results will not last as long. It is recommended that you continue to visit your dentist on a regular basis for a professional clean to helps maintain white teeth for longer.
