The technology behind prosthodontics has become so advanced that you probably will barely notice a difference in your appearance. Each set of dentures is personalised to your gums, lips, tongue, if fact your whole mouth. Additionally, before you are given your permanent dentures, moulds are made in wax for you to try them on and see how they look. The only difference in appearance is a beautiful smile once completed.
Getting dentures for the first time is an adjustment, to say the least. There are many things you are going to have to practice a little to truly master and speaking is one. Don't worry, it's not like re-learning how to speak completely. You may experience some lisping at first, but it shouldn't take long to re-teach your tongue and lips to adjust in order to regain you original speech patterns.
Prices can vary depending on your denture needs and the type of denture you would prefer. Our Dental Prosthetists can advise you on the different options available and the cost of each of these options.
Dentures usually last up to 5-10 years. Even though your teeth are missing, your mouth and gums will continue to change shape for the rest of your life. Because dentures are artificial, they will not change with the shape of your mouth. You will need to get them replaced or adjusted. This can easily be done by calling up to organise an appointment with our friendly staff.
There will be an adjustment period. You may have some difficulty at first, but you have spent a lifetime learning a particular way of eating. Learning to eat with dentures may take considerable time, as chewing efficiency is significantly less than your natural teeth. In addition, as dentures are not fixed, you will notice slight movements of your denture during chewing and eating, depending on the type of food consumed.
To clean your dentures we recommend you brush them using a denture brush, soap and water. Do not use toothpaste as it will damage your dentures by scratching the surface. We also recommend soaking your denture in a high grade cleaning solution (which may be purchased from our clinic) once a week. Make sure you try to clean your dentures after every meal and ensure you rinse your mouth and clean any permanent teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste.
We always recommend you remove your denture overnight as it is a non-fixed and foreign object. This allows your gums and tissues to breathe and saliva to circulate.
Yes, we accept all private health funds, Veterans' Affairs and all NSW health vouchers.
Yes, you can leave your dentures in all the time.
We recommend that you take your dentures out and clean them after you have eaten.
