AT A GLANCE

  • Stress management and sleep
  • Trauma treatment and relationships
I work with individuals, couples and families. I use cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT); mindfulness; relaxation; hypnotherapy; EMDR; resource installation; emotion management.

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)

  • Learn how to keep your thoughts positive and to challenge irrational negative thoughts. Also learn how to change behaviour to improve wellbeing. CBT can be useful for anxiety, depression, self-esteem, assertiveness, phobias, life crises, stress reduction and sleep difficulties. Mindfulness training and relaxation training may also be taught.

Bilateral Stimulation and Visualisation Training:

  • EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing treatment - can help desensitise trauma and upsetting past, present or future events, so that they can become more connected with positive feelings.
  • Resource Installation - can help strengthen you emotionally.
  • Affect Management Skills training - can help you better manage negative emotions such as anger, sadness and anxiety, and can teach you techniques to help you stay grounded.

Hypnotherapy

  • Can be effective for stress, anxiety & depression, smoking cessation, self-esteem, eating control, weight loss, motivation improvement and pain management.

Parenting help

  • Positive reinforcement techniques taught.

Relationship/marital counselling and therapy

  • Can help identify negative interactional cycles and a behavioural circuit-breaker may encourage a more positive interaction to take its place.

FAQs

  • How much does a session cost, are there any rebates and how long is a session?

I charge $200.00 per session, and a session lasts around 50 minutes. The medicare rebate is $124.50 which means that each session will cost $75.50 with referral from your G.P. through the Better Access Scheme. Private health funds may cover sessions which are not covered by Medicare.

  • Are you registered, and do you have specialist post-graduate clinical psychology training?

Yes. I am a registered psychologist and I am also a clinical psychologist. I have been a member of the Clinical Board and the Clinical College of the Australian Psychological Society for over thirty years.

  • Do you do hypnotherapy and what can this treat?

I do use hypnotherapy. This intervention can target a variety of issues such overeating and weight loss, smoking cessation, self-esteem and confidence, pain reduction, depression and anxiety and motivation enhancement.

  • Do you do EMDR and what is it?

I often use EMDR. Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing treatment (EMDR) is a powerful, quick and often effective technique which helps desensitise trauma. EMDR can remove the distress from traumatic and upsetting experiences. It can be a very effective treatment for PTSD; as well as for other upsetting events such as panic attacks, complicated grief, disturbing memories, phobias, pain, performance anxiety, stress reduction, addictions, sexual or physical abuse.

  • Do you treat panic attacks?

I treat panic attacks with a combination of psychoeducation, cognitive behaviour therapy, EMDR and hypnotherapy. I have also developed a paradoxical intervention which can block panic symptoms.

  • Do you do relationship counselling?

I do relationship counselling, assisting people in exploring their negative relationship interactional cycles. I then devise a behavioural circuit-breaker which may prevent the self-perpetuating negative interaction from continuing, so that a more positive interaction can take its place. I often prescribe "homework" in order to further reinforce positive relationship changes.

  • Do you treat depression?

I treat depression with psychoeducation and with cognitive behaviour therapy. I will encourage daily exercise, and I often treat depression further with hypnotherapy.

  • Do you help with parenting?

I can assist parents in learning how to better manage their children's behaviour by using positive reinforcement techniques.

  • Do you do stress and anxiety management?

Yes, I do mindfulness training, relaxation training and stress management using a variety of cognitive behavioural techniques. I also use visualisation training to help learn new techniques to stay grounded, or to manage emotions better, using affect management skills training. Hypnotherapy can also further help to reduce stress.
