Yes. Mobilisation can be performed on soft-tissue (muscles, fascia, etc) and is also known in this instance as massage. Mobilisation can also be performed on joints and in the stronger grading termed a manipulation. There are 5 grades of mobilisation and you will never be just manipulated without progression through the grades first AND never without your INFORMED CONSENT.
No, we are primary contact practitioners. That means you can see us without seeing a GP. The GP is the centre piece of your healthcare and often direct you/refer to physiotherapists because of our stronger knowledge of the musculoskeletal system. We then assess, treat and take appropriate intervention, which may mean requesting Imaging or referring on to a specialist if appropriate. You only need to see a GP before us if your condition is covered by a third party (eg. DVA, CTP, workers comp).
