About Hunter Region Botanic Gardens

Mission: To grow, study, conserve and promote plants, in particular, plants of the Hunter Region.
The award winning Hunter Region Botanic Gardens are managed and maintained by volunteers for the enjoyment and education of the people of the Hunter and visitors from Australia and Overseas. Our beautiful gardens cater for everyone from serious horticultural enthusiasts through to students undertaking educational school trips and families wanting to enjoy a day outdoors.

A beautiful place to visit

Enjoy over 30 hectares of tranquil landscaped gardens, displaying the beauty and diversity of Australian native flora in a natural bushland setting. The gardens feature over 3,000 living specimens with 8 kilometres of easy tracks and trails.

Theme gardens include Australian native plants, exotics, Orchid and Bromeliad houses an amazing Succulent and Cacti garden, endangered species and plants of the Hunter Region.

  • Is Hunter Region Botanic Gardens available for weddings and functions?

    The tranquil setting of the Gardens is the perfect location for an outdoor wedding or reception. The picturesque surrounds provide a superb backdrop for your wedding photography. The Gardens also provide an ideal setting for corporate or club functions.

  • What kind of Education Resources available?

    The Gardens are an ideal venue for environmental excursions for schools, tertiary institutions and community education groups. Valuable resources include the Theme Gardens, Gundabooka Trail and outdoor class room, botanical library, indoor display and bush walking trails.

  • What is a procedure to become a member and what benefits?

    Ordinary membership costs $20.00 per year. Members receive a regular newsletter. (Non-member subscriptions to the newsletter are available for $7.50 per year) Supporters of the Gardens who are able to make an additional donation can become Silver members. Silver Donor membership involves a tax deductible donation of $100.00 or more in addition to the ordinary membership fee and entitles you to:10% discount at the gift shop, 10% discount for functions etc.
