In a confidential, non-judgemental setting a psychologist may help you by providing information to assist you in understanding about the issues you are currently struggling with. You may develop coping strategies, which you continue to utilise throughout your life. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) addresses the role that your thoughts and belief systems play on your emotions and behaviour. A psychologist may also teach you relaxation and breathing techniques to reduce stress levels.
You only need a referral from a doctor if you wish to claim a Medicare rebate, in which case you will need a Mental Health Care Plan prepared by a doctor/GP. With a current Mental Health Care Plan you are entitled to a Medicare rebate for ten (10) counselling sessions per calendar year.
Manly Pittwater Psychology does offer a bulk billing service to approved clients. This is negotiated on an individual basis.
