FAQs
Founded in 2016, Terra Insight is an Illawarra-based specialist engineering consulting firm. We cover the southern coast, hinterlands from Georges River south to Batemans Bay. We are dedicated to addressing ground-related challenges with clarity and expertise. We provide tailored solutions, both responsive and relevant to the specific geological conditions of your site. Our mission revolves around simplifying geoscience complexities, ensuring our clients understand the intricacies involved.
Site Classification (AS2870): Investigation of subsurface conditions, to inform foundation design.
Geotechnical Investigation and Assessments: We employ advanced techniques to analyze soil properties and geological factors, offering insights crucial ground conditions for project planning and execution including stormwater and waste water assessment. We can also do prepurchase inspections for geo-risk.
Contamination Assessment: PSI, DSI, RAPs, Waste classifications, ENM assessments
Furthermore, we also offer the following services:
Landslide Risk Assessment (AGS and RMS): Our evaluations are based on the guidelines laid down by the Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS) and Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and help assess landslide risks.
Contamination Assessments (PSI and DSI): We assess potential contamination risks through Preliminary Site Investigations (PSI) and detailed Site Investigations (DSI), ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Geotechnical engineering is crucial for ensuring the safety, stability, and longevity of structures. By understanding the properties of soil and rock at a site, engineers can design foundations, retaining structures, slopes, and other elements to withstand various loads and environmental conditions.
Soil samples are collected using boreholes, test pits, or other methods. These samples are then analysed in a laboratory to determine their physical properties, composition, moisture content, strength, and other relevant characteristics. This data helps in assessing soil suitability for construction.
Geotechnical engineers mitigate risks during construction by conducting thorough site investigations, designing appropriate foundations and earthworks, implementing monitoring systems, providing construction oversight, and recommending mitigation measures for potential hazards identified during the design phase.
Geotechnical engineers and consultants must stay updated with relevant codes, standards, and regulations governing construction in their region. They can ensure compliance by following best practices, conducting thorough investigations, documenting findings, and coordinating with regulatory authorities throughout the project lifecycle.
