Two appointments are needed and they are a week apart. The first appointment is to place some elastic rings, called separators, between the back teeth. Fitting the separators takes about 10 minutes. Braces are glued in place with a material which is very similar to that used for tooth coloured fillings. It is not very strong as it has to be removed when the braces are ready to come off.
