Massive shout out to Craig today for helping me after some lowlife slashed 2 of my tyre valves while at Mt Tamborine. Went above and beyond to get me fixed and back on the road safely

Handy tips

When to repair or to replace your windscreen?

Knowing how to recognise if a windscreen repair is viable or not helps you save a lot of money (compared to proceeding with a windscreen replacement). Here’s a guide to help you see clearly beyond those cracks.

  • How big is the damage? A crack or chip that can be covered by a 10 cent coin is repairable. A single crack that can be covered by a $5 note may also be possible for repair. Multiple cracks and long cracks are usually not repairable, but you can always consult a car windscreen repair.
  • What does the damage look like? If it’s small and circular with a few cracks radiating outwards (even if there are small pieces of glass lost), then it may repairable. Windscreen repair technicians will need to allow the resin to set properly.
  • How deep is the chip? If it penetrates through the inner layers, until the second layer of the glass, then it may not be repairable.
  • How long has the crack been there? If you left it there for a very long time, it may contain some permanent dirt residue. This will make the resin murky and discoloured when being repaired.
  • Where’s the crack? If it extends up to the frame, then consider replacement. Repairing it will compromise the seal of the frame to the windscreen.

It’s best to quickly contact a windscreen repairer near you. The longer you take, the greater the repairing effort is needed. Browse our directory for an extensive list. Mobile windscreen repairs are also listed if you want a convenient home service.
