Q: Do I need a referral from a GP?
A: Normally, no referral is necessary. Just contact your speech therapist and arrange an appointment. If your child is eligible for partial Medicare rebates on speech therapy for toddlers, a GP referral may be required.
Q: What happens during my first session with the speech language pathologist?
A: Sessions vary depending on the age of the person. Your first session will often be an assessment of speech patterns to find out if there are any speech delays.
Q: How long will therapy take?
A: It is often difficult to predict treatment length as there are many factors that influence the success during speech and language therapy. Therapy may last a few weeks to months or years.
