Rafters versus roof trusses

Simply put, you want a roof over your head that isn’t going to fall apart anytime soon. Traditionally, all homes were built with rafters supporting the roofing structure. Nowadays, roof trusses are increasingly prevalent over rafters due to a number of reasons.

Cost: Rafters have smaller members over rafters and are engineered to provide similar strength. Prefab timber roof trusses are usually built in a manufacturing plant, which can allow for cost reductions as many processes are automated.
Time to install: Rafters can often take a week to install due to the sheer number of materials that need to be installed. On the other hand, trusses can be installed by an experienced carpenter in less than a day.
Wood roof trusses allow for an open design, which can really open up your living space.
