I was on a solo golfing tour across Northern Tasmania in April 2015 and the lovely lady at the Visitor's Centre mentioned that Exeter was one of the best 9 hole courses in Tasmania (she was the Ladies' Club President). I delayed my round at Barnbougle Dunes so I could play Exeter. I was very,very impressed. It is hilly and challenging and the long-serving greenkeeper is obviously a genius - the fairways were green, lush and beautifully mowed in patterns. The greens were in simply superb condition - amongst the very best I have seen anywhere. Not particularly fast but the grass cover and smoothness were amazing. It was also lovely to see 3 or 4 local members volunteering and very hard at work cleaning up trees on the course. Definitely worth stopping and putting the required $20 in the honesty box. I also recommend the bakery at Exeter - very large scallop pies (my favourite).
