The differences between a public and a private hospital

Are you considering going to a hospital but not sure whether it is worth going to a private or a public one? We’ve put together some pros and cons for both to allow you to decide.

  • Public hospitals tend to be much bigger and can accommodate a lot of people. They cannot turn anyone away and, due to being publicly funded, are much more affordable. However, due to their large size, the ratio of doctors to patients is staggering and hence the waiting time to speak to a doctor or get a treatment is often quite long.
  • Private hospitals are capable of providing personalised care to their patients with the ability for a patient to even have a private room or being able to choose their doctor. Wait times are much shorter and the ratio of doctors and nurses allow for more contact with the staff.

Whether you live in the suburbs, the outback or the CBD, there will always be a hospital around your area. If you’re looking for premium service and specialised care, have a browse through our local listings for local private hospitals in your area.
