Mt Baw Baw is my preferred ski slope because it is far less pretentious than Buller, Falls Creek or Hotham, and has the cross country tracks that I love (over to Mt St Gwinear and back). Access has improved over the years. It does take a colder winter to get good snow at Baw Baw as it is lower and closer to the warmth of the sea. It is also much closer for people in the south of Melbourne. Skiing there mid-week after a blizzard had turned the snowgums to crystal statues is one of my fondest memories.
