Choose a cleaning solution that is appropriate for your appliance. Glass stove appliances can be damaged by cleaners with abrasives, but a stainless steel stovetop can be cleaned with a strong degreaser.
Use water sparingly around knobs. If water enters through the openings around the knob shafts, it could damage the internal spark ignition system. Clean with a damp cloth instead of spraying water or a cleanser directly on these areas.
Most gas stove appliances come with a range hood. To keep your range hood filter free of dirt, place the filter in a gallon-sized ziplock bag and pour in 1/2 bottle of ammonia. Seal the bag and let it sit for the day. Then remove the filter from the bag, rinse well under hot water and let it air dry.
