Living Harmony Landscapes

This company was polite and provided clear communication and service throughout the planning, scheduling and construction phases of our project. Specifically Tom worked with us to provide a permanent retaining wall solution to our 29 m long, aged and colapsing retaining wall set above our home. The finished product has met our requirement for a strong, no maintance retaining solution built to withstand with existing slope forces. Tom provided two solutions based on our budget. We ended up selecting the more expensive stone option which now is a beautiful feature enhacing our home. Though in hindsight his other option would have worked equally well and looked good it would have had a slight upkeep perhaps down the track should the render have required recolouring or cleaning. We are happily leaving a review as three years on and after several serious flash flooding events and consistant heavy rain we can say the wall is performing perfectly and has shown zero structural change. Tom had at the time we thought over engineered the drainage behind the wall and we were suprised at the time and effort he took to level and prepare the subsurface and serious drainage area behind the wall. As non professionals we had no idea why this was vital. His planning has ment we recieved no runoff to our home from the 100m steep slope above for its entire length. Tom had carefully planned drainage which works perfectly behind the structure so the run-off above the wall is directed behind the wall to the end he set it to drain tppo. Only in serious sheet rain downfall after weeks of prior rain have we seen small waterfalls through some of the huge block stone work. All excess at this point has been consistantly captured by the french drain he added to the base at the front of the wall and it all runs away as he planned instead of over our drive concrete and under our home like it used to. We are happy to recommend Living Harmony Landscapes to anyone requiring a competent landscape design service capable of providing full service to completely finish the job. We will use this service again when available to remediate our drive once the weather improves enough for work on our slopes.

Gardeners - Common Questions

How to control the weeds in my garden?

Hand-weeding is the most effective way of removing weeds. Adding a layer of mulch helps slow the return of weeds. Regularly chopping and turning the soil with a hoe is also helps keep weeds under control.

I just treated my plants last week and the bugs are back! What's wrong?

It often takes multiple applications of pesticide to break the cycle. Since many insects can have eggs left behind on the plant, a close inspection once a week and treatment where necessary will break the cycle.

When is the best time to prune trees?

The obvious season to prune is winter - especially for roses and fruit trees. Year round pruning can be achieved by pruning small amounts regularly.

Do I need mulch in my garden?

Mulch serves several purposes. It helps suppress weeds and retain moisture at the root of the plants. As it breaks down, it will also improve the texture of the soil.

Why do I need to fertilise my garden plants?

The soil needs to be fertilised to replace lost nutrients. Some plants, such as fruit trees, vegetables and roses, have been bred to be super productive and need extra. Lawns are other good examples.
