Benaraby Junction Nursery

Huge wonderful nursery, I can always find multiple items I wish to purchase. They are kind of pricey, can you believe the price of Gerberas these days! and they don’t have any tubes for natives -which I prefer when buying natives, to always buy tubestock, their range of natives has improved over the years thank goodness. The staff are allways very helpful and pleasant, but they have sinister motives, and will go to great lengths to be passive aggressive. I will avoid this place in the future, and stick to landcare nurseries

How to select plants at a garden nursery?

Spring is a good time for adding new plants to the garden. But when you drop by your local garden centre or nursery[MC(1] , how do you tell the difference between healthy plants and those in poor condition? Let’s look at a few guidelines that will help you in choosing plants, that will survive and thrive after you buy them.

  • Go for plants with healthy foliage. The leaves of a plant are often a good indicator of its health and should be lush green. Avoid plants with yellow or brown leaves as this could be a sign of over or under watering.
  • Look for pests and diseases. Pests like aphids or mites are usually hidden on the underside of the leaves or at the growing tips of the plants. Also, leave out plants with holes on the leaves, black spots or blisters.
  • Examine the roots of the plant. Don’t choose a plant if its roots are soft, brown or easily fall apart when you touch or pull them slightly.
