Looking for washboard abs? Aren’t we all. At Yellow, we’d like to lighten your load. Below is a list of functional zones and the types of gym equipment used to target these areas:

  • When looking to tone your legs, a horizontal seated leg press will target your quads, hamstrings, calves and glutes.
  • The broadest muscle in your back is your latissimus dorsi, better known as your lats. A weighted lat pulldown will strengthen this group of muscles, tightening your posterior chain.
  • Working your biceps and your triceps is a great way to build muscle definition in your arms. A cable bar pull up for biceps and push down for triceps will target the smaller muscle groups in your arms. Try these exercises in small repetitive blocks.
  • A chest press will not only strengthen your chest but also your biceps and your triceps, in a similar manner to a push-up.
  • To get those washboard abdominals we talked about earlier you are going to want to strengthen your core. A great way to do this is with a hanging leg raise. This will not only work your abs but your hip flexors as well.
  • And finally, everyone’s favourite, cardio. There are many cardio machines available in a gym. These include rowing machines, treadmills, cross trainers and cycle machines. Choose the one that you are most comfortable with and that will have the least impact on your joints.
