Whitsundays Fishing World

Absolutely Fantastic fishing tackle store. It is tucked away inside a BP Service Station and I have missed it several times travelling past the store on Shute Harbour Road; Cannonvale. I only noticed the store one day when I needed fuel at the BP Service Station. Unfortunately it was after 4.30pm on a Sunday and the store had closed. I visited the store the next day. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The store has a wide range of fishing tackle and lures, though it would be unfair to compare this small business with the likes of BCF. But if you want to support the local small business, this fishing tackle store is well worth supporting. The staff really knows about fishing and can give you the good oil on locations for the fish you intend to target. The other thing that surprised me about this little store is that they craft custom made rods to your specifications using top class blanks and prime American made aluminum reel seats. I was so impressed by the quality of workmanship that I ordered two custom made bait casters from Robert; who is the master rod craftsman there. The blanks that I chose are the latest offering from Wilson Live Fiber called "Venom". This blank is so strong it can easily lift a barramundi over a meter. I have yet to receive the rods, but after seeing some of Robert's creations in the shop, I know they will be superb. Finally if you are wondering how much the rods cost; they range from $500 and upwards, depending on the type of blank; length; and reel seat you choose. My opinion is that the price is very fair for a custom made rod of such finesse, quality and meticulously hand crafted in Australia, when compared to other more well known brands that are churned out in truckloads from China. If you are a fisho and you ever find yourself in the vicinity of Cannonvale, pay a visit to Whitsundays Fishing World and check the store out. I think it is the best kept secret in the Whitsundays.

Handy tips

How to choose fishing tackle?

Many anglers find today's wide variety of fishing tackle confusing. So, if you are struggling to pick the right type of gear at a fishing tackle shop, you are not alone. Here are a few tips to help you:

  • Select a fishing rod that is five and a half to six feet long to handle lures weighing between 1/12 and 1/3 ounce. This is a medium-light to medium rod.
  • Go for a spin cast reel if you are new to fishing as this is easier to use than a spinning reel. However, bear in mind that spinning reels hold more line and can cast farther than a spin cast one.
  • Use the lightest line possible. Most anglers should be able to fish with a six-pound test line all day and never lose a fish.

Price is an important consideration so buy your tackle at the best value from a fishing tackle store. On the lookout for cheap fishing tackle shops? Why not browse our online listings to discover options for a fishing tackle near you?
