Handy tips

How to choose a fertiliser?

While fertilisers are essential for achieving a healthy and green lawn, finding the right one for your use can be difficult. We’ve gathered a few tips to help you pick the best fertiliser for your lawn:

  • Test the pH level of your soil using a soil tester or soil testing kit. For lawns, the ideal soil pH is between 5.5 and 7.0. If the pH level is below 5.5, you should apply a lime fertiliser and if it is above 7.0, carry out a treatment of sulphur fertiliser.
  • Know your lawn. Identify your grass type and any problems specific to your lawn. This will help you figure out which lawn fertiliser you need, how much and how often to use it.
  • Decide which fertiliser is better for your plant. Organic fertilisers often cost significantly more than artificial fertilisers, but they continue to improve the soil long after the plants have absorbed the necessary nutrients.

Keep these pointers in mind the next time you head out to buy lawn or garden fertilisers. Browse our extensive listings to find fertilisers near you!
