How to prepare for a cremation ceremony

Funeral services can be a very emotional event for family and friends. Take the following into consideration when planning a private cremation service.

Consider whether you will have a local cremation service at a funeral home or at someone’s home. External venues typically have the resources and supplies to refrigerate the body for you.
If a body is not directly buried or cremated, it needs to be properly preserved. This can be done by embalming or refrigeration, depending on costs and if the wake is to be held.
Consider if you’ll be having a pre-funeral event, such as a wake, viewing or open-casket funeral. The funeral may require the body to be embalmed. Make sure that clothing, valuables and other items that can hinder the cremation process are removed.
Ashes are typically placed in a sealed container or urn for the family to claim.
