Managing Director Julie Harwood has 30 years of experience in the funeral industry and takes pride in ensuring families are guided with care and fairness when a death occurs. We realised that many large corporate funeral companies can be transactional and lack empathy. We saw the need to make funeral planning easier and simplify the process for our client families.

Julie Harwood Funerals

I can only rate five stars here but Harwood Funerals deserve ten. My mother, Tess, passed away suddenly on Christmas day, 2023. Being such a significant day only left our family feeling further distraught. My initial intentions were to use the services of one of the better known Funeral Services such as White Lady, Tobin or Le Pine but in response to a general web query I'd created, I was contacted by Angie of Harwood Funerals. Angie explained the process to me and was immediately upfront in providing all of the known costs and inclusions at a fixed price. I will admit here that I did have some hesitation in moving forward with Harwood because of the small number of reviews but Angie was so clear, concise and professional in every aspect of our ongoing correspondence, that I quickly became very comfortable in utilising their services. Given my mother's burial service was quite some distance from the church service, this alone caused great logistic difficulty. Time-frames had to be maintained while still allowing for the interaction between mourners, and providing two priests; one for the church service, and the other for the committal (burial service). In addition to this, Angie arranged some very special alternatives for my mothers viewing with my mother's make-up and attire being carefully considered and tended to by Harwood's mortuary artist 'Trevor', who worked and assisted my very brave, young niece in preparing Mum for the family's viewing of her. The entire service and burial were conducted by Harwood Funerals absolutely perfectly, professionally and well below the costs quoted by the bigger companies. Angie worked with me from start to finish and was there every step of the way in supporting my large family with their needs and requests. Special thanks to Trevor for his work with my niece and for his driving of the immaculately presented hearse. Warmest of regards, Paul M.

Handy tips

Cremation ceremonies unpacked

At Yellow Pages, we want you to have the best possible experience in cherishing your loved one. We’ve assembled answers to two common questions you may have when undertaking private cremation.

Q: How does a crematorium work?

A: After someone dies, their body is transported to a cremation chamber and exposed to extreme temperatures. The body is reduced to bone fragments, which is ground into ashes using a cremulator. The cremated remains are placed into a container and handed to the family.

Q: Why is a local cremation service desired?

A: Cremation offers a number of advantages over burial. It is generally more affordable as you don’t need to purchase an expensive casket, purchase a cemetery plot or grave marker. It is also has a small impact on the environment and reduces the problem of overcrowded cemeteries.
