A badly maintained industrial refrigeration system can become contaminated with germs that could impact the quality and hygiene of food. Consider these cool tips to keep your cool rooms and refrigerators clean and chilly.

  • Follow the manual and ask questions of the installation engineers. Design a maintenance schedule for your staff.
  • Check the door seals to prevent cool air from seeping through. Close the door on a note or slip of paper and check if it slips out easily. If it does, you may need to call up a commercial refrigeration repair service near you to have a look.
  • Clean the inside of your fridge and cold room panels. Avoid using chemical cleaners on coolroom panels unless you know it is compatible.
  • Set the right temperature so that your refrigeration unit or coolroom is not using more energy than it needs to.
  • Use intuition and your senses to detect if something’s wrong. You may see something leaking, or smell spoiling food. You might hear the air coming out roughly or feel too much moisture.
