What is concrete formwork?

Concrete formwork refers to moulds into which concrete and other materials are poured. Concrete formwork is used for many construction projects, including residential and commercial swimming pools, retaining walls and fences.

The moulds used in formwork can be either temporary moulds usually referred to as falsework, or permanent moulds. Precast concrete is produced by casting concrete into a reusable concrete formwork system.

There may be many concrete forming accessories that may be required in concrete construction projects. Concrete form ties are used to connect opposite faces of wall formwork to restrain the concrete pressures. Concrete control joints, pouring boards, support pullers and wire ties improve the positioning and usability of the overall concrete formwork system.
