Brooks Hire commenced in 1979 when Doug Brooks purchased two u/s compressors on bankcard. In 1982 Doug purchased the first piece of mobile plant an 8 tonne JEC crane, by tender, which Doug drove to Eneabba. At the time of buying the crane, Doug was operating the business from a shed at Eneabba working 18 hour days and living 5 days a week in a humpy at the back of a shed.

Established in 1987 Southern Cross Industrial Supplies Pty Ltd is a privately owned Australian company located in both, Albury New South Wales and Adelaide South Australia.

In 1930 Frederick Irwin Worthley opened a hardware store on Port Rd at Hindmarsh with his wife. During the depression, people would collect butt ends of solder and bring them in to Fred and he would pay them cash. He then remelted the ends into sticks of solder to sell in the hardware store. Allen’s son Brett started in 2000 and is now proudly managing Worthley’s.
