Handy tips

How do I select the best day care centre?

Whether you choose a formal child care centre, in-home care or a family day care, it’s important to know what to look for. In order for the ankle biters to be well looked after, here’s some tips from our Aussie mums:

  • Kids need a lot of consistent, close and interactive time with adults in order to thrive. Look for how the staff interacts with kids. Ask about the caregiver’s commitment and how long the care centre has been around for. This allows your tiny ones to develop strong relationships with carers.
  • Check in and get updates. It’s important that you establish conversations with the caregiver. Tell them how your munchkins slept, and if they ate breakfast. Ask for how many diapers they went through, when they napped or if there’s any concerns.
  • Trust your gut instinct and be open to change. Babies deserve and thrive under good, nurturing care. If something doesn’t feel right in the daycare near you, investigate other child care centres.
