Handy tips

Timber flooring or bamboo flooring? Which one should I choose?

Bamboo wood flooring has made strides in popularity in recent years as an alternative to hardwood and timber flooring. Is there any benefit to using bamboo over timber floorboards? We’ve gathered some of the key differences between bamboo hardwood flooring and traditional timber floorboards to settle the argument.

  • Bamboo is seen as a sustainable choice for many, despite both materials being sourced from sustainable plantations. Bamboo plantations typically mature between four to six years while traditional hardwood plantations can take from twenty to one hundred years to mature.
  • Bamboo flooring is typically engineered with lock-in systems for easy installation. Timber flooring typically need to be fixed to a sub floor, sanded, polished and dried.
  • Timber flooring is less susceptible to discolouration over time compared to bamboo floors.
  • Due to the way bamboo flooring is manufactured, they are extremely resistant to insects.

Overall, the choice is up to personal taste. Check out our local listings and try out the ‘Request Booking’ button to request an appointment with a specialist who can advise you on next steps to take.
