Handy tips

Things to know before starting ballet class

New to ballet and have recently registered for ballet lessons near you? Here’s some advice to help you feel more at ease and get the most out of each class right from the beginning:

  • Know what type of ballet you will be learning. Even though ballet technique is broadly the same worldwide, there are different schools of ballet, mostly relating to their originating countries. For example, Cecchetti is an Italian method of ballet in which the basics are the same, but the specifics and style vary.
  • Enquire if there is any dress code before your first class. Usually, you are required to wear a leotard, pink tights and ballet slippers.
  • Groom your hair into a bun, French twist or similar style. Coming to class without properly styled hair shows a lack of respect for the traditions of ballet.

These pointers will help you settle into a ballet class near you without a hitch. Have a look at our extensive listings to find ballet lessons for adults as well as ballet classes for kids near you. Start dancing today.
