There are many ways to test if you are having hearing problems. Here we discuss some common hearing tests used for adults and children.
The most common is called pure tone audiometry. You listen to a range of beeps and whistles that gradually decrease in volume. Here you indicate when you can hear them. Usually this is done by pressing a button. The softest sound you can hear is then marked on a graph called an audiogram. Delivery of sounds can be through headphones or vibrating the area behind the ear.
Hearing tests for children is done through a number of gamified versions of the above audiometry. When a child hears a sound, they complete a small action such as dropping a marble in a marble race. There are also a number of objective tests that don’t require the child’s direct involvement such as using sensors to measure the brain’s response when a child registers a sound.
Hearing aid tests are very useful in allowing you to know when you have a hearing issue. Consider meeting with an audiologist near you and booking an audiology hearing test today.
