Are you eligible for an aged care service?

The Australian government prescribes that elderly people, of 65 years and above or for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and above, are eligible for the government funded aged care support services.

When applying, a face-to -face assessment is undertaken to determine one’s eligibility. If deemed that indeed you or your loved one needs aged care services or residential care, a partial or fully subsidised service regulated by the government shall be granted.

For cases that still require a certain amount of payment, the cost here varies and depends on the following factors:

  • financial situation
  • the number and types of services needed (can be aged care services at home, short term aged care services or services that requires admittance to residential care home)
  • the service provider’s fees

If assessed to have qualified for an aged care home, a financial assessment from the Department of Human Services is also needed as soon as possible.
